Join the preservation society

Based in Arbroath, Scotland, Mackays has been making famous premium marmalades and preserves for over 70 years, now exporting to over 50 countries world-wide.

They are one of the very few companies in the world still using the traditional ‘open pan’ slow boiling method of jam-making which gives their preserves and marmalades their distinct homemade flavour. In all their preserves they use only the finest quality fruit grown locally in the surrounding berry fields of central Scotland.

Parallax like you mean it

Tasked with communicating the quality of the brand through a new digital identity and mobile-friendly website, we crafted a beautiful parallax scrolling page to tell the story of Mackays’ traditional methods, and a bespoke flavour finder so users could find their personal top three Mackays’ products. A stockist search and online shop makes it easy for customers to go straight to purchase.

We aimed to give the site a truly hand-crafted feel to reflect the heritage and authenticity of Mackays brand.

Off to the show

Then in the summer of 2013, we were asked to update Mackays' exhibition stand for the Royal Highland Show – a key date in their marketing calendar for reaching a large audience and encouraging sampling.

Our aim was to bring the Mackays’ farm to life and focus on the stars of the jam – the fruit. Our welcoming, friendly design ensured the stand was quite literally jammed! Thousands of show visitors queued to try samples and stock up their larders with the full range of preserves.

We created 3D visuals of the stand so it was easier for the client to see how the designs would work in real life.
