More than a meal, less than a kitchen

You’ll find annual webhosting online costing less than a meal in a good restaurant. This hosting is often called ‘shared hosting’ and can be awful – think hundreds of sites on one server, unexpected downtime or software upgrades that break your site – it simply isn’t worth taking the risk. Hosting with reduced risk isn’t cheap though, often called ‘dedicated hosting’ because the server is dedicated to just your site, the annual cost is more in the region of a small kitchen than a meal out. This is often beyond the budget of most projects. That is why we have ‘multi-client dedicated hosting’ where ’dedicated hosting’ is shared between several clients for a few hundred pounds a year. This way you get the benefits of having the same quality hosting as paying up to 20 times the amount; and one point of contact for site development and hosting.

The techie bit

Our servers are hosted at Lumison's Edinburgh datacentre and managed by their team on our behalf 24/7. This includes monitoring of hardware and software; proactive maintenance of operating systems; installation of security patches; and nightly backup. These servers are covered by a Service Level Agreement (SLA) between Lumison and Whitespace including 99.85% availability.

Do you like paying for insurance?

No, neither do we, and that is what support contracts really are. Our hosting is proactively managed as part of the annual hosting fees and all our projects are thoroughly tested before they go live. If we become aware of a problem, then we’ll fix this as quickly as possible free of charge. If you require any updates, let us know and we’ll estimate and schedule up-front, before we complete and test once agreed. It sounds corny, but we’d rather you thought of us as a friend here to help than a monthly overhead.
