Tis the season to be jolly busy – especially for Santa! With the help of Whitespace’s amazing Sant-o-matic, he delivered £1,670 worth of presents for Forth 1’s Cash for Kids Christmas appeal.

Sharing some festive joy

In 2012, our Christmas TweetTrain brought some traditional Christmas magic to our clients who could drive a train set high up in the Whitespace studio rafters, which was then hooked up to Twitter.

Using the hashtag #TweetTrain caused it to spring into life – so clients could instruct it to drive fast, or slow, or even backwards! We even had a live camera on board to broadcast the resulting journey.

But in 2013, we wanted to go a step further. As well as bringing some festive fun to clients, we wanted their help so Santa could deliver more presents and bring some joy to children in Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife.

The Sant-o-matic is born

Starting life as an arcade grabber machine, it travelled all the way from Wales before our team of Whitespace elves gathered their tools and got tinkering in the Whitespace Christmas workshop.

We worked out how our clients could control it from their own desks and program the claw to grab and deliver presents. And there we had it – the Sant-o-matic - a truly interactive agency Christmas card!

The results

For everyone who had a go, we donated £1 to charity, but for skilled operators who grabbed and delivered a present, we donated £5.

And there were a few extra special presents worth £100, £200 and £500 to increase the levels of competition between our clients.

And this all helped deliver real presents to kids who might not have received anything else that Christmas. With thousands of site visitors and hundreds of participants, in only two days, we were able to donate £1,670 to Forth 1’s Cash for Kids charity appeal.

We apologise to all our clients’ organisations which lost many of their team to a few hours of playing Sant-o-matic. But it was Christmas!
